Clair Nichols oversees agency services provided by several account teams. In addition, he directs the firm’s public affairs practice, guiding manufacturers, utilities, public agencies, chemical companies and other industries to positive working relationships with local, state and federal governments, communities and the media.
Clair has provided strategic counsel, direct representation in the legislature and every other aspect of public affairs and public relations services to agency clients since 1986. His background includes extensive management and policy making experience in both the public and private sectors. He has served in Kentucky government as the deputy secretary of the Transportation Cabinet, executive director of the Public Service Commission, deputy commissioner of the Department for Local Government, and in management positions for agencies serving the areas of human resources, finance and the legislature. Clair also has managed, organized and advised numerous campaigns for public office.
Prior to joining Guthrie/Mayes Public Relations, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Schmutz Manufacturing Company of Louisville.
Clair earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees in political science from Western Kentucky University. He is a member of the board of directors of the Japan/America Society of Kentucky.
