Dan Hartlage joined Guthrie/Mayes in 1993 and has more than 20 years of experience in client-side and agency public relations, as well as in daily newspaper and network-affiliated television journalism. He contributes broad experience in virtually every aspect of modern public relations practice, including corporate communications, product publicity, media relations and media training, issues management, and agribusiness.
Prior to joining Guthrie/Mayes, Dan was vice president and head of the public relations department of a Louisville advertising agency. He also had served as an account executive with another leading Kentucky public relations firm. In these positions and at Guthrie/Mayes, Dan has managed numerous agency accounts, including many that involve regular contact with diverse publics and strongly competing points of view. He has key experience in areas such as tobacco, agriculture and employment-related issues.
Dan also has been in our clients’ shoes. He previously served as public relations manager for TNT Motorsports, where he managed all aspects of national public relations and marketing activities.
As a sports writer for The Daily News in Bowling Green, Dan was recognized by the Kentucky Press Association as one of the state’s top feature writers. Earlier, he was an associate director at WAVE-TV, the Louisville NBC affiliate, where he produced and directed television commercials and newscasts.
Dan is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and its Counselors Academy. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Main Street Association of downtown Louisville, and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Louisville and the Louisville Ag Club. He also is a member of the Kentuckiana Basketball Officials Association serving as a referee for high school basketball games. Dan is a graduate of the University of Louisville.
