Top 3 Things for High-Impact Videos

It’s no surprise video continues to rule in 2021. In fact, new research shows people are actually watching more video as a result of the pandemic (Wyzowl). That’s up from nearly 7 hours per week in 2019!

And, viewers actually retain more information from watching a video versus reading text — 95 percent compared to 10 percent (Insivia).

So, how do you get started? What should you be capturing on video? Here are GMPR’s top three suggestions:

  1. Show the real human impact

Tell a story about what your organization or product does, and be sure to demonstrate clearly the impact/benefit/value through a real-life example. How has it changed or improved someone’s life? What impact have you made in the community? Why does it matter?

  2. Let someone else — a partner organization, client, etc. — be the one touting your value/impact

The audience may see you taking credit as self-serving or sales-y. Instead, let the work or impact speak for itself. When others sing your praises, it’s seen as more authentic and trustworthy. You can explain why it’s important to your company, but beyond that, let others communicate how awesome you are.

  3. Have clear goals

Are you most concerned about engagement? Looking for clickthroughs to your website? Want to increase brand awareness? Raising money for an annual fundraiser? Does this tie into a larger campaign or is it standalone? Depending on the answer, you may consider well-produced video packages, short vignettes, testimonials shot on your phone, explainer videos, animated graphics, and/or drone footage. Any one of these options could result in making a big impression on your audience.
